The Scotch 80s began as a planned community in the 1950s and sits just west of Interstate 15 and downtown, in the block framed by West Charleston Boulevard, South Rancho Drive, West Oakey Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard. It is one of the most historically significant neighborhoods in Las Vegas, known for large lots, estate-scale homes, mature landscaping and a long list of notable past residents. Unlike the crawl-space cottages of Huntridge and John S. Park a mile east, the 1950s and 1960s homes here are mostly slab-on-grade, and that one construction detail shapes nearly every plumbing job on these streets.

The outdoor kitchen was still on a flimsy rubber whip from a party store. A buried steel line with a shutoff at the island replaced the whip. We were in Scotch 80s, Las Vegas. The grill lights on the first click and the HOA signed off.

Although the neighborhood is historically significant, it is not a designated historic district - John S. Park is the only Las Vegas district designated both locally and nationally - so most work follows the ordinary city permit process. If your home may be individually significant, confirm with the city first.
