A tankless, or on-demand, water heater fires a burner or electric elements when a hot tap opens and heats water as it passes through a heat exchanger. It is sized by flow rate and temperature rise rather than tank capacity. Gas units draw much more fuel at full output than a typical tank, so the gas line and meter must be checked, and condensing models need a condensate drain and their own venting.

Tankless units suit many Las Vegas Valley homes: they open up garage or closet space, remove the risk of a tank letting go, and keep supplying hot water through long stretches of use. They also ask more of the house than a tank does. A gas tankless heater needs far more fuel at full output, so an existing line sized for a tank is often too small. The federal Section 25C credit ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025, so check current utility or manufacturer programs instead.
