About Sewage & Waste Services in Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas, from Bonanza Road to Charleston Boulevard and I-15 to Maryland Parkway, is a commercial and hospitality quarter where grease interceptors, backflow, commercial water heating and pre-code sewer drive plumbing work.

Downtown Las Vegas runs from Bonanza Road south to Charleston Boulevard and from Interstate 15 east to Maryland Parkway, taking in the Fremont Street Experience, the Fremont East Entertainment District, Symphony Park and the Las Vegas Medical District. It is a commercial and hospitality market first. Casinos and hotels, restaurants and bars, offices, small retail and a growing number of residential conversions share some of the oldest commercial building stock in the valley. Cast iron and clay drain lines, undersized laterals and decades of alterations layered on top of each other are routine, and a sewer connection that met code when it went in often does not today.

Local Knowledge

Common Sewage & Waste Services Issues in Downtown Las Vegas

Pre-Code Cast Iron and Clay Sewer

Downtown has the valley's oldest commercial buildings, with cast iron and clay drain lines, undersized laterals and connections that no longer meet current code. Camera inspection shows the real condition before work starts.

Grease Interceptor Maintenance

Kitchens that skip scheduled cleaning end up with grease in the drain lines and backups during service. Documented maintenance is also what a health inspection looks for.

Change of Use in Older Buildings

Turning retail or warehouse space into a restaurant or bar changes drainage, venting and interceptor requirements, which is where older downtown buildings most often need real plumbing work.

Scale in Boilers and Commercial Water Heaters

Hotel and kitchen water heating plant runs far harder than a household unit, and at about 280 parts per million, roughly 16 grains per gallon, scale cuts efficiency and shortens equipment life.

Stagnant Lines in Large Buildings

Dead legs and low-use lines in hotels and larger buildings let water sit, and SNWA notes Legionella can grow in biofilm in large systems. Temperature control and recirculation design help manage that risk.

Local Tips

Sewage & Waste Services Tips for Downtown Las Vegas Residents

If your downtown building has several food tenants, confirm each one has its own grease interceptor before an inspection rather than after.

Schedule interceptor cleaning and drain jetting on a fixed interval and keep the records, since a failed line on a busy night costs more than maintenance.

Check Fremont Street events and convention dates before booking planned plumbing work, as access and parking change on those days.

What Customers Say About Our Sewage & Waste Services in Downtown Las Vegas

Real reviews from Downtown Las Vegas and nearby Las Vegas neighborhoods.

Raw sewage came up in the shower after the kids flushed two toilets. They stopped the flow, sanitized, and replaced a crushed cleanout. We were in McNeil Estates, Las Vegas. The house smelled like a house again by bedtime.

Google review, February 2026

The restaurant's grease interceptor was days past pump-out. They pumped, scraped baffles, and left a dated service sticker. We were in Centennial Hills, Las Vegas. The county inspector passed the trap on the next walk-through.

Hadley M.

Yelp review, February 2026

The lift station at the loading dock high-level alarm would not clear. Floats cleaned, a backup pump staged, and a run-time log started. That call was from McNeil Estates. The dock stayed dry through the next holiday weekend.

Downtown Las Vegas Questions

Two authorities are involved. Downtown is inside the City of Las Vegas, so the plumbing permit and inspections come from the City of Las Vegas building department. The Southern Nevada Health District separately reviews plans for food establishments, and one approval does not replace the other.

Grease trap pumping typically runs $150 to $400 in the Las Vegas Valley, and commercial water heater installation typically runs $1,500 to $6,000+. These are typical valley ranges, not quotes. Active Plumbing gives a written price before any work starts.

Active Plumbing is open 24/7, and technicians arrive in 30 to 60 minutes anywhere in the valley, including downtown. For planned work we can agree an early morning or overnight window so your business stays open. Call (702) 438-3357.

Not under the Southern Nevada Amendments. Each business that needs a sand or oil interceptor must have one serving that establishment only, and separate owners or lessees within a larger building need separate interceptors. Interceptors must also pass a water test showing no leaks.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority notes that Legionella can grow in biofilm inside large plumbing systems such as hotels, offices, hospitals and high rises. Water temperature, dead legs, stagnant low-use lines and recirculation design all affect that risk, especially in buildings with changing occupancy.

Have the drain lines and lateral inspected with a camera, since old cast iron and clay lines and past alterations often differ from the plans. A change from retail to food service changes the drainage, venting and interceptor requirements, so the existing plumbing is assessed before the design is finished.
